My speech (:

I performed my speech to the class last thursday, I was happy with the outcome (:

Although, I needed so speak a little slower, but I got some good feedback from some people. They said that my speech was good, informative & funny. It turned out that it was 3:25, even though when I practiced it at home it came out as 3:54. Showing that I was speaking a little too fast. I thought I should have memorized a bit better iswell. But oh well, I put alot of effort into my speech & I was happy to get it over and done with as I had butterflies in my stomach at the start..

So, congrats everyone who got through, we all did really well!(:

What was your speech about & how did you do?

What I learnt this week

What I learnt this week

This week (Two days into it!) I have already learnt something. It is true that you learn something new each day. This week I learnt about roman letters and numerals, there are only seven numerals! If you want to read a number or write a number you will have to do the letters and put them together. Some of these numerals and letters were really long and you could spend 5 minuites trying to read one. There are only 22 lettters.
Learning about Rome is really intresting & I learn alot of new things. I want to learn more about Ancient Rome.

Are you liking learning Ancient Rome?

Passion Project

Passion Project

I am pairing up with Joanna for the Passion Project. We will be attempting to write a song and make a music video. It will improve our video making skills. It will also let us get some knowledge about song writing and what famous people go through. We will be singing and it will be good to work with someone on something we are both really passionate about. I think it would be good for our tech skills in college and in the future.

What is your idea for the passion project?

My Poem

My Poem

This week on our task sheet we had to upload a peice of recent work, I was really proud of my poem that I completed last week. So, I decided to post it. Here it is!

Waterfall River
Trees enclosing me at every step,
Water crawling up my legs.
Heart pounding in my ear,
As it draws near.
Water pushing me,
As I fight my way to what will be seen.
Grass waving a simple, Hello, at my side.
A bird glides above me as fast as wind in a storm.
Water spray’s my face lightly,
I hold on to a rock tightly.
I hear the water falling from a cliff,
Everyone said it was a myth.
But here I am,
Standing in front of a waterfall,
A stunning moment that I have captured.

By Shanaea.

I liked this piece of work because I love water and nature. When I found out that I could write a poem, water instantly came into my head. I think that personification brings the story to life and that description is the key to sucess. Writing is very expressionate and brings out strong feelings that you can write on paper. I went to this waterfall and remember it vividly, it was a windy day but I loved seeing the waterfall. I wish to write some more poems later in the school year.

Production

Getting ready for the Production

To get ready for the Production I need to finish organizing my costumes: Get a black or brown belt and long white socks. I need to work on my hair and makeup skills such as practicing putting on face paint and helping out others to organize their costumes. I also have to work on a few of my dance moves. e.g the one where we have to step from the side to the middle to the side with your hands going down and up... I'm sure I can get everything ready in time.

Production is going to be awesome/epic/cool/amazing/fantastic/fun/crazy/epic again. :D

Olympic Rowing

Olympic Rowing

My favorite Olympic sporting event is Rowing.
To be a Rower you need power, agility and balance. Rowing is a leisure activity, you can do it for fun or show your gifts to the world (If your amazingly good like Hamish Bond & Eric Murray)
If you want to enter in competitions you will need stamina and focus to beat your opposition. You will also need a rythm going continuosly from the time you start and the time you finish.

While Rowing, the athlet(s) sit backwards and and use the oars which are put in place by an oarlock. Athletes compete in a river, lake or ocean. This is New Zealands best sporting event.
Thanks for reading. TTYLXOX -Shaney

Holidays!

Welcome back to school everyone(:
In the holidays i drove up to Napier with my mum, dad and nephew. Every Thirty seconds he was asking "Are we there yet?" Okay, maybe i am being sarcastic but it felt like that.. Anyway so we arrived in Napier to meet my sister and her fionce, they had prepared a nice lamb (which by the way was $15 dollars each, considering they were pretty big lambs, it was a big deal) It was Yummy. We thern headed off to bed and in the morning, my nephew and I had coco-pops :D We got dressed and went to the petting zoo?! (I forgot what it was called) anyway back to my story. There were, goats, sheep, horses, ortrisches (Not allowed to feed them) bull, birds and more. There were 3 llamas. One of them stole my nephews cup and was holding the cup in his mouth trying to get it all out. we had fish and chips then went to play mini golf. By the end of the game, my nephew had lost it completly (not in a bad way) he was laughing so much and when the ball went down the last hole and dissapeard, he opened the box and was trying to find the ball again. We had some yummy thai dinner (I had sweet and sour pork) We went back to the house and by morning we went to the farmers market and then we headed for a 4 hour drive home.

Uninvited Guests

Uninvited Guests
His heart was pounding. He was sure he had seen the doorknob turn.
Jason was treading on the grey tiles in the kitchen, reaching for the milk on the third shelf of the fridge. The tiles were cold on the soles of his feet. The fridge was breathing ice cold air that wrapped the kitchen in fog. Jason grasped the plastic container that held the fresh milk from his goat, Lady. He shut the fridge door, making the fog vanish into thin air. He pulled a cracked glass from the bottom cupboard, Jason wrapped his tiny fingers around the glass as he poured the milk into it. The moonlight glimmered across London, making the city look like a lit up Christmas tree.
Jason wandered across to bottom of the stairs, he glanced up at the shimmering ice skating boot. His mother had lost the other one in a accident. She was on the final jump, about to be tossed in the air and make a perfect landing. Jason was in the audience, as he was noting her every move, Jason imagined him in the spotlight one day, cheers from the crowd and holding up that trophy that would make his parents cry with Joy. His mother landed so hard on this ice that it cracked beneath her. That day, she broke nearly every bone in her body, Jason still believed that this was no accident.
He heard a creak from behind him, Jason swerved his body to face the wooden door. Panic set in the pit of his stomach, questions ran through his head. The door slammed shut and nearly fell off its hinges. The air suddenly turned cold, Jason was sure he had locked the door. Fear entered his body, he felt there was no escape. He took a step back and stumbled into the stair landing. “Who’s there?” Jason demanded. The door clicked into lock and he could hear the rustle of keys being jiggled in someone’s pocket. He ran upstairs, not even daring to look back. The words ‘I will get revenge’ were written on the wall. ‘Revenge for what?’ Jason thought. He felt like his legs were on speeding down the corridor, Jason reached his room and turned the brass doorknob. It stopped half way, he shoved with all his might at the door. Jason was home alone, he grabbed the antique table by his door and held it up to his chest. ‘Leave me alone!’ He stammered.
·
As everyone crowded around his mother he remembered seeing a man about thirty years old wearing a red ice skating suit. He was in the audience watching in jealousy.  As the man walked outside, he was kicking everything in his way. After that, everything was a blur. ‘Was this the man coming for revenge?’ Jason thought silently to himself as if the man could hear his thoughts. He crept by the bathroom door, a light bulb went off in his head. Jason knew what to do and he had a plan. ‘I could trick him into coming into the bathroom, then I could lock him in!’ He thought.  The light flickered in the next room, suddenly the power went dead. The house fell silent, all Jason could hear was footsteps crashing up the stairs. Jason thumped his feet around the bathroom as if he was going inside. Moaning started filling the house, it bounced off the walls and under the carpets. Jason no longer knew where he was.  Jason’s feet blurred below him as he felt a surge of adrenaline. The steady thump of footsteps echoed in his ears. Jason shoved himself into the cupboard so fast that his foot got stuck under a bed of towels. The moaning got closer, butterflies starting swirling around in his stomach. Jason begged himself to stop. The footsteps were right outside the door now, he closed his eyes and was expecting to wake up in a unknown place. To his surprise, the feet faded down the corridor and he could no longer hear them. Jason stumbled out of the cupboard and landed with a thud on the dusty carpet. A wall of dust stood before him until it faded into the midnight air. He pulled himself up and hid behind the table. ‘Did he hear me?’ A few long minutes past before Jason crept down the corridor to the bathroom. As he entered the bathroom he pulled himself back, in the mirror staring back at him was a swirling pool of colours. He could just make out a small figure in the middle of it. The man had pale white skin and looked similar to the man in Jason’s memory. He fell back onto the carpet and everything started fading away.
Jason woke up and shuddered nervously. The sunlight streamed through his window, the last thing he remembered was on the floor in the hallway. He pulled himself out of the bed and peered into the hallway. Nothing, ‘Was that all a dream?’ He pasted the bathroom quickly. The whirlpool started up again and the man was standing in the middle, he winked to the picture frame facing him.

The transit of Venus

The transit of Venus

The transit of venus happened on the 6th of June and traveled across the sun for 6 hours.
This rare transit is when the Sun, Venus and Earth alline, making Venus visable infront of the sun.
The next transit will be in 105 years, in 2017.
Of course, you cant view the sun with the naked eye, so to protect your eyes you can buy some solar viewing glasses.
In some countries you could only see Venus as the sun rise others could only see it when the sun sets. Australia and New Zealand could see the whole transit!
Unfortunately the weather was cloudy and we could not see the transit of Venus.
Remember, if your born in in 2040 there might be a chance that you could see the next transit of Venus.

Group working

Group Working

"What skills do you need to work effectively in a group?"

To work effictively in a group you need to be hard working, cooperative, organized and self-motivated.

"How did you decide who did which taks? Was this a good method?"

To decide who to which tasks. We chose the task that we were most intrested in, luckily we all chose different things. I was most intrested in myths, so i started researching on that part of the project.

"What task were you responsible for?"

As i said before, i was responsible for researching on myths and legends.

Choose someone from your group who did a good job.

Charlotte. D demonstrated leadership skills and was helpful when organizing all the papers to print off. Also she was good at choosing who did what and keeping on track.

What are you doing for your space project?

The Hunger Games book review

The Hunger games
By Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games book was published in September 2008 and followed by her sequels; Catching fire and Mockingjay. Since then, it has become a major motion picture showing in nearly every country.
Katniss Everdeen is a sixteen year old girl that faces a struggle to become the 74th annual Hunger Games victor.
She volunteers as tribute after her twelve year old sister gets picked at the reaping. Katniss is determined to keep her family safe at any cost, even if it means her own life.
Peeta Mellark is a strong and courageous young man who fell in love with Katniss the moment he set eyes on her. He proclaims his love for her in his interview with Ceaser Flickerman, “There is this one girl, I’ve had a crush on for a while now.”

Peeta then became very protective of her and would have done anything for her. Katniss plays along, acting as if she is in love with Peeta. Peeta and Katniss have been renamed the Star crossed lovers from District 12.
“He made you look desirable! And lets face it, you could use all the help you can get in that department. He is helping you get sponsors”
This book is aimed at young adults and I rate this book a five out of five.
Suzanne Collins is very good at using expression through her writing and makes the reader feel like they are with the Characters. I hope to see more books written by Suzanne Collins.

Art!

Hi Everyone!
This week, Room 11 and 12 did some tree art,
Firstly we painted the background any colour and i choice Yellow.
Next we painted a black trunk to the middle of the page and put a blob of black paint at the top and we blew into a straw and it gave it a tree like affect..
After that, we added confetti made out of a whole puncher and put glue on the page then we sprinkled confetti over it.
It was fun and entertaining.

How did your art go this week?

I also want to improve in getting faster in doing my tasks(:

My confidence levels have gone up since camp. I can talk in front of the class without hesitating alot.
I can balance out my task and manage them better than i did before.
